On Nov. 13 (Tue.) we held an opening ceremony for International Graduate Program in Agricultural Policy Development and Management, the first International graduate program collaborated by NTU and Taiwan ICDF. We honorably invited Mr. Cheng-Chung Chen (General Secretary of TaiwanICDF), Dr. Si-Chen Lee (NTU President), Dr. Tung Shen (Dean of Office of International Affairs), and Dr. Bao-Ji Chen (Dean of College of Bioresources and Agricultural). On Nov. 16 (Fri.) we honorably invited Ms. Dong-Qiong Hsiao, the section chief of the International Organization Section, International Cooperation Division, Council of Agriculture, to give us a speech at 10:20 in the seminar room.

On the same day, Dr. Ming-Jen Lin, Associate Professor of Dept. of Economics, NTU, was also invited to give us a speech on "Can Hepatitis B Mothers Account for the Number of Missing Women? Evidence from Three Million Newborns in Taiwan" at 13:20 in the seminar room.

 

On Nov. 9 (Fri.) we honorably invited Dr. Liao An-ting, the head of the Council of Agriculture's planning division, to give us a speech at 10:20 in the seminar room.

On the same day, Dr. Hung-Jen Wang, professor of Dept. of Economics, NTU, was also invited to give us a speech on "Estimating Panel Stochastic Frontier Models with Fixed Effects by Model Transformation" at 14:20 in the seminar room.

 

 

 

On Oct. 19 (Fri.) Dr. Shih-Hsun Hsu, professor and chairman of our department was invited to participate NTU and NTUH Yunlin Branch opening ceremony. Our EMBA program in Agricultural Economics and Environmental Resources Management is the first academic program offered in Yunlin Branch. Now we are preparing for the application for prospective students in academic year 2008/2009. In the future, we'll consider making this program to run on the quarter system, starting from every summer vacation. Students enrolled in this program could gain the diploma within two years. The ACEE 2008 Calls for Papers. The 9th Annual Conference of Empirical Economics will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2008, in Dept. of Agricultural Economics, National Taiwan University.

 

Important dates: 1.Abstracts and Proposals will be due on Feb. 1, 2007. 2. Notification will be sent out by March 31, 2008.

Congratulations!! Dr. Hung-Hao Chang, assistant professor of our dept., and Professor Richard N. Boisvert's article - Accounting for geographic heterogeneity of multifunctional rice policy in Taiwan - is selected as the recipients of the PAWEES Paper and Reviewer Award. Dr. Chang was invited to participate in the honorable Award Ceremony in Seoul, Korea in October.

 

 

 

Dr. Shih-Hsun Hsu, Professor and Chairman, was invited to visit the Kasetsart University as well as the Chiang Mai University, Thailand and to discussed with Dr. Charuk Singhapreecha, Dr.Songsak Sriboonchitta and Dr..Aree Wiboonpongse for the future scholarly exchange and collaboration. Dr. Hsu also published paper the in the seminar of Resource Use Efficiency and Productivity in Production, Marketing and Finance.

International Graduate Program in Agricultural Policy Development and Management for international students set up in 2007. Dr. Rhung-Jieh Woo visited Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, Germany and several German governmental agencies, such as Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food (BLE), Central Market and Price Information Office for Agricultural, Forestry and Food Products (ZMP), Deutschen Raiffeisen (DRV), EUREPGAP, Landgard Obst & Gemuse GmbH & Co. KG, Wholesale Market Cologne, Fruchthansa Gmb. The main goal of his researching trip was to collect the information for exporting Taiwan fruits to EU.
